Many children are not getting enough exercise and this has a lot of parents concerned. Sedentary lifestyles can lead to all types of health problems in later years, and now is the time to do something about it. This is one of many reasons to look into the benefits of yoga for kids.

Yoga is good for the mind and body and when children practice the poses they get the same health advantages as adults. The discipline increases one's inner awareness and also strengthens muscles while improving coordination. This is an excellent strategy for dealing with stress, as tension and stress are not only an adult problem. This type of exercise routine helps with joint flexibility and even though children have natural joint suppleness, inactivity is bad for joint health. A qualified instructor understands that children's exercise needs are different than grownups and will teach your child the basics. This helps to avoid unnecessary frustration and allows for a gradual learning process.

Minds young and old improve when they learn new things. This may be the perfect break from computers, smart phones, video games, and school. When the mind is opened with something new and exciting, inner growth occurs. Young minds become more comfortable with their growing bodies.

The benefits of yoga for kids extend into the world of sports. Not everyone is talented in football, baseball, tennis, or other sports. In fact, some children may have little interest in these things. Still, children need a physical outlet and it can be expressed in a noncompetitive and healthy way. This helps youngsters deal with all the pressures that school and social situations place upon them.

Perhaps you think your child is too young for yoga class. You may be surprised how many people attend baby and mother classes. It may not seem to benefit a small child, but it exposes him or her to something positive. Small children are more willing to accept new things and enjoy them, than older children. Classes for toddlers are designed to be simple and easy to follow, to avoid boredom or frustration.

When checking out children's courses, look for instructors that are certified. This will give your child the most benefit from classes. He or she will not only learn, but will have a great deal of fun interacting with other children. Some classes may be designed to drop the kids off. If so, ask to stay so you can check out what goes on.

If you cannot find classes near your home, try creating your own home class. Get mats for you and the children and choose music that they enjoy. In fact, let them choose the songs. Begin with easy to learn and understand poses and breathing. Three part breath exercises are good to start with.

The benefits of yoga for kids are many. If you want some examples of postures, include the "Cobra" and "Cat Stretch". You also may use the "Downward Dog Pose" and the "Tree". Most children will enjoy the "Pose of a Butterfly" and the "Corpse Pose" is simple and relaxing.

There is not just one type of yoga, but there are many. Perhaps the reason you did not get into yoga was because you did not find one that fits you and your lifestyle.

Certain people are attracted to certain styles of yoga for various reasons. Just as the color of your yoga mat can affect your practice, your favorite yoga style might say something about your personality. The following is a fun, light-hearted list of yoga styles, and the personalities they attract.

Restorative Yoga - This style of yoga is for those in need of some serious power relaxing, and not ashamed to admit it. For restorative yoga lovers, there is no guilt in shutting out the world with a lavender eye pillow and kicking back on a fluffy pile of blankets for an hour.

Power Yoga - Power yoga is a go to yoga for those that are athletic or looking to build strength. This form of yoga is all about stretching you out and helping you become flexible.

Iyengar Yoga - For those of you out there that are used to a schedule and knowing how everything works and is going, this style of yoga is definitely for you. This form of yoga deals with the attention to detail that most forms of yoga do not. This would definitely be my type of yoga since I consider myself to be very OCD (color coordinated closet).

Bikram Hot Yoga - From the name I am pretty sure you already know that this style of yoga deals with practicing yoga in hot temperatures. This form of yoga is also great for those who like repetitiveness in their life. With this form of yoga you stick to the dame poses every class.

Kundalini Yoga - If you are an open minded individual, this is a style of yoga worth looking into. This yoga is all about opening the mind, heart and being very intuitive with your intellect.
